Hey Ring, I know you love '76, but what about '78? I don't recall you ever suggesting anything from that period. Definitely one of the best years for JGB. Every show from February, and particularly March '78 is just about perfect. Give a listen to 02/18/78. An excellent sounding copy is available on sugarmegs. I like the setlist, and love the encore of Lonesome And A Long Way From Home. Perfect show from start to finish, and Keith plays much better than he was playing with the Dead at this time. He's awesome on Midnight Moonlight, which a phenomenal performance. The Catfish John is one of my all-time favorites, and another amazing I'll Take A Melody. You'll be hooked once you hear the Catfish, guaranteed.

I like '78. I've listened to 2-18-78 many times. Lately, I seem to have it narrowed down to '76 and '80, with maybe '75 a narrow third ... there is tons and tons of great stuff in other years, too, but those lately are my focus. '77 is slightly too syrupy sometimes (kind of like '77 GD). I don't listen to much past 1980, and lately, not much of the earlier JGB, either. Not to say that won't change ...

Some of it just set lists. I get fixated on certain songs. When I was fixated on "Lonesome and a Long Way From Home," I was listening to '78 and '79 more, and I'm sure I'll do that again.

I know this has been done so many times the old-timers can't stand it ... but this afternoon I was trying to figure out what my ideal JGB set list looked like. Here's what I came up with - I don't necessarily have the order totally worked out, but the songs are definite:

Catfish John
Train to Cry
Tough Mama
Positively Fourth Street
Midnight Moonlight
Lonesome and a Long Way From Home
That's All Right Mama
Mystery Train
Sitting in Limbo
Friend of the Devil
Tiger Rose
Promonotory Rider
Gomorrah
Sisters and Brothers
When I Paint My Masterpiece

Well I like fantasy set lists, top 10 lists, and all that tomfoolery. I'm too fixated on the Ratdog show on TRI right now to give this my full attention, and need to catch up on some sleep once this show ends, but I'll craft my own silly list when I have a chance tomorrow.
